Towboard Footstrap System
A footstrap attachment system for big-wave tow surfboards, developed with a local shaper to fix the holding-strength loss of the traditional design.
Design partnership with a local surfboard shaper
Footstraps on big-wave tow boards get adjusted constantly, and the traditional attachment design loses holding strength as it’s adjusted repeatedly. I partnered with a local surfboard shaper to fix that, working through the full design process from concept to a system we could actually sell.
The result is an attachment system that retains its holding strength through repeated adjustments. The constraints were real on both sides: it had to work with the shaper’s fabrication methods and fit the construction of a finished board. The improved thread type at the core of the design was commended and approved by world-class big-wave surfers.
